402 Saint Joseph Street
Rapid City, South Dakota

Nearly a decade ago, as the founders of The Numad Group were envisioning what they would do together, they dreamed up the idea of a space that would offer a platform for community, collaboration and good work.

Today, the historic Motor Service Building in the East of Fifth neighborhood in Downtown Rapid City has transformed into The Garage, a contemporary coworking space for small businesses, nonprofits and freelance creatives.

The Garage is more than an office. Yes, people work here everyday. But we also hold intimate concerts with international acts, show movies and bring writers and directors in to talk about their work, showcase artwork by renowned artists, and host the occasional party.

On the National Historical Registry, The Garage has traditional features found in a more corporate setting—including meeting spaces, a kitchen and a conference room that anyone with a membership can reserve. High ceilings, contemporary lighting features and lots of natural light from the large windows and garage doors provide the perfect space to spring forth new ideas. Garage doors, automobile signs and other characteristic features of the building have remained, and old doors, counter tops and lighting fixtures have been refurbished and reused in the new space.

We created this space with one thing in mind: community. What has transpired—as a result of our
members—is something special that is transforming our East of Fifth neighborhood, the downtown area, and is making positive change in communities near and far.
